Popular Odia Jatra Artiste Rabi Satpathy No More
Jagatsinghpur: Veteran Odia jatra artiste Rabi Satpathy passed away following a prolonged illness. He was 68.
Satpathy, who was suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment, breathed his last on Friday night at his residence at Agapada village under Kujang block of Jagatsinghpur district, family sources said.
Known as the comedy king of Odia jatra, Satpathy had acted in around 500 plays of several opera troupes including Janata, Gouri and Konark in his career.
Satpathy had developed certain health complications in June this year and subsequently he was diagnosed with cancer, sources said.
He was given treatment at a hospital in Bhubaneswar, but his condition did not improve.
Satpathy rose to fame as a comedian by acting in popular Odia play ‘Saguna Basichhi Dena Melei’ in 1990s. He was also part of another popular jatra ‘Mo Penkali Bajei De’.
