Post Office Takes Steps For 95-Year-Old Woman To Get Pension Home Delivered In Odisha’s Gajapati

Bhubaneswar: Moved by the heart-wrenching tale of a 95-year-old ailing woman, the staff of a post office in Odisha’s Gajapati district have made arrangements to get her pension home delivered every month.

The move came after the postal officials came across reports that the family members carried the ailing elderly woman, Labanga Gaya, on a cycle rickshaw to the bank to collect her old age pension, official sources said.

As per reports, the woman was not getting her pension for the last three months. With no money to hire a vehicle the family members of Labanga Gaya carried her on a trolley to the bank.

However, the bank returned then empty handed asking them to approach the municipality office. After making a few rounds, she could withdraw her pension from the bank.

After learning about the plight of the woman, the staff of Parlakhemundi Post Office reached her house and opened a zero balance India Post Payment Bank account yesterday.

Now Labanga Gaya will be able to receive her pension every month home delivered. Her daughter, who lives nearby, thanked the post office for the service, the sources added.
