New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s medical condition has declined, as per the Army Hospital in New Delhi. Mukherjee is admitted to the Army Hospital over health complications for 20 days. He has been in a comatose state.

The hospital, via a statement on Monday, said that the former president is in septic shock owing to lung infection.

“There is a decline in the medical condition of Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday. He is in septic shock due to his lung infection and is being managed by team of specialists. He continues to be in deep coma and on ventilator support,” the statement read.

The octogenarian was admitted to the Delhi cantonment hospital on August 10, where he underwent an operation for the removal of a brain clot. A team of specialists are monitoring his health parameters.

It may be recalled that Mukherjee had also tested positive for COVID-19 at the time of his admission. He developed a lung infection and kidney dysfunction later.

Mukherjee served as the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017.
