Pregnant Women To Get Covaxin Jabs In Govt Hospitals In Bhubaneswar From Today

Bhubaneswar: Expectant mothers in the Odisha capital will be administered vaccines from Wednesday.

According to the Health department sources, Covaxin will be available for vaccination of pregnant women in Capital Hospital and all government UPHCs and UCHCs. The sessions will be held from 11 am to 1 pm every Wednesday and Saturday.

Pregnant women are required to carry valid ID proof (Aadhar/PAN Card) and MCP (mother and child protection) to the vaccination centres.

The inoculation drive for this category of beneficiaries in the state began on July 17 after the completion of training of ASHAs, Anganwadi and health workers. Around 1,284 pregnant women got the jab on the first day.

Around 4.5 lakh pregnant women will be vaccinated in the first phase, the sources added.

According to the guidelines, the beneficiaries will be initially counselled about the benefits of the vaccine and the possible side effects. They will be administered the vaccine following their consent.

There is will no queue at the vaccination centres for them with dedicated waiting rooms being set up for their convenience. All pregnant women will be kept under observation for at least 30 minutes for any possible adverse events following immunisation.
