Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday attended several events related to development projects in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
On the first day of her four-day visit to the state, the President arrived in a special helicopter at the temporary helipad at Pandarashila football ground in Sukrili in the afternoon. she was received by Governor Raghubar Das and Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu.
From there, Murmu went to Kichakeswari temple at Khiching and offered puja to the deity. Following this, she inaugurated Eklavya Model Residential School at Badasahi in Rairangpur. She also laid the foundation stone for the Central Government Holiday Home and laid foundation stones for various road projects and a Sports Complex in Rairangpur town.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said the Central government has implemented several schemes for the poor and tribals to ensure their livelihood and education. As part of the Centre’s plan, 87 new Eklavya Model Residential Schools will be set up in Odisha with the highest 19 in Mayurbhanj, she added.
She said the tribal youths will get benefit from the Sports Complex and bring laurels for the state and country.
“The health centre in Rairangpur is catering to the health care needs of the people of Odisha and neighbouring states. The cooperation of the state government is required under the federal structure for more developmental schemes to be extended to this area,” she said.
Stating that the love and affection of the people have been attracting her to come to Odisha frequently, the President said she would never forget her birthplace which has taken her to the highest post in the country.
