New Delhi: He is just fourteen, but once he gets going, he takes even those who have played international cricket for as many years to task.
Days after smashing 190 of 84 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi – the child prodigy from Bihar – received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday.
The PMRBP is India’s highest civilian honour for children aged between five and 18. It is awarded annually for outstanding achievements in categories including bravery, art and culture, environment, innovation, science and technology, social service, and sports.
The left-handed batter will link up with the rest of the India Under-19 squad after the ceremony and travel to Zimbabwe as the team prepares for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup, which begins on January 15.
Suryavanshi, whole playing his 190 runs innings for Bihar, became the youngest centurion in List A cricket history. He scored his century in just 34 balls.
The innings also saw Vaibhav surpass AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket by 10 deliveries. His tally of 15 sixes is the most by an Indian in the format, as reported by TOI.
Earlier this year, Suryavanshi had already grabbed national attention during the Indian Premier League while playing for Rajasthan Royals. He registered the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 35 balls against the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans.
