Puri: The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Friday sentenced Subash Ramachandran to five years in jail for setting fire to the three express trains at the railway station in Puri.

The CJM Indu Sharma also slapped a penalty of Rs 75,500 on the accused and directed additional 10-month imprisonment for the non-payment of the fine.

The incident took place at 4.25 pm on November 12, 2015, when a fire broke out in a compartment of the Nandankanan Express and then compartments of the Puri-Tirupati and Puri-Howrah Express trains.

In course of the investigation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) found Tamil Nadu native Subash’s complicity in the incident and arrested him on the same day.

A polygraph test conducted on Subash revealed his association with a Mumbai module having links with a Pakistan-based terror outfit.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took up the case later found that Subash was involved in similar incidents in Kharagpur in West Bengal and Haridwar in Uttarakhand.
