New Delhi: In a huge embarrassment for the Congress, its spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi quit the party and joined Shiv Sena on Friday.
Priyanka had expressed\deep resentment after Congress let off some party workers, who reportedly misbehaved with her during a media briefing in Mathura earlier this week.
Deeply saddened that lumpen goons get prefence in @incindia over those who have given their sweat&blood. Having faced brickbats&abuse across board for the party but yet those who threatened me within the party getting away with not even a rap on their knuckles is unfortunate. https://t.co/CrVo1NAvz2

She has been a visible face of the party on television channels and known for her skill in fielding uncomfortable questions with aplomb.
Her stepping down in the midst of ongoing elections comes as a huge embarrassment for the Congress, especially when it has made corruption and women dignity an election issue.
Announcing her decision to join Shiv Sena at a press conference along with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai, Priyanka said “Mumbai meri janmbhoomi hi nahi, meri karmbhoomi rahi hai. I thank Uddhav ji and his party for their respect. I have joined Shiv Sena to serve Maharashtra.”
Early this morning, she had removed the designation “AICC Spokesperson” from her Twitter bio, triggering speculation about her resignation.
In fact, her bio on the micro-blogging site, as of Friday, April 19, no longer carries the earlier description, enlisting her roles in the party.
She had earlier retweeted a journalist who commented on an Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee letter on sacked workers being taken back with senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia’s go-ahead. Jyotiraditya is the Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
