Paralakhemundi: A probe has been ordered into an alleged wrong blood transfusion, endangering life of a patient, at district headquarters hospital (DHH) here in Odisha’s Gajapati on Wednesday.
According to sources, Venkateswar Behera needed a transfusion following blood loss due to hemorrhoid. “He was administered blood on Monday and Tuesday. On the doctor’s advice, I collected collected O positive blood from the bank blood and submitted it at the hospital again on Wednesday. But the staff nurse administered blood of the wrong group following which his condition deteriorated,” his brother told the media.
The doctor later administered an injection and his condition is stable now, he added,
Deputy Superintendent of the hospital Dr Pramod Panda said that a probe has been ordered into the incident. “I received a call from the Chief District Medical Officer about mismatching of blood group last night. Instead of O positive, B positive blood group was administered to the patient. An inquiry is in progress. Action will be taken against the staff nurse if found negligent,” he added.
