Berhampur: Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were imposed at two villages in Sanakhemundi block of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday as tension prevailed in the area following a clash over land ownership.
Sources said the local administration imposed curbs under BNS 163 restricting gatherings and any form of public assembly in Singipur and Ratnamanipur villages in an effort to maintain law and order.
Forces from Digapahandi and nearby police stations were deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident.
As a precautionary measure, the police conducted a flag march in both villages to instill confidence among locals and deter any possible flare-up.
As per information, the trouble erupted over a plot in Ratnamanipur where villagers have set up a Hanuman temple along with a park. However, residents of Singipur demanded the removal of the temple and construction of a market complex and a public toilet on the land.
As both sides were adamant on their demands, tension prevailed in the area. Senior officials from the local tehsil and police are closely monitoring the situation and trying to get the issue resolved as early as possible.
