Project ‘Durga’ Launched By Police In Odisha’s Sundargarh; Check Details

Sundargarh: A new project ‘Durga’ has been launched by the police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district ahead of the festive season to train young girls in self-defence and provide career counselling opportunities to them.

With a slogan of  ‘Shashakt Sundargarh and Surakshit Sundargarh’, the project was launched at a function held on the occasion of International Daughters’ Day and aims at capacity and confidence building among girls in the district.

Ollywood Actress Archita Sahu inaugurated the event in the presence of other dignitaries and said the programme would definitely play a significant role in strengthening the confidence of women and preparing them to face all odds.

Over 300 girl students from various from different educational institutions in the district would be trained during the programme, sources said.

‘Durga’, includes these three activities to train girls mentally and physically for a period of two days.

  1. Self Defence Training: Girls studying from Class VIII to X would be given basic hand-combat defence techniques by which they could avert any possible dangers. Professionals would teach girls to escape the misbehaviour of miscreants. So far, 20 schools in the district have been identified for this programme.
  2. Naari Helpline: A 24X7 dedicated helpline has been announced that would be managed under the guidance of Sundargarh SP Sagarika Nath. The helpline number would assist women in countering their plights such as eve-easing, harassment, stalking and cyber crimes etc.  The helpline number would be very soon dispensed across all the schools, girls’ hostels, colleges and other places, to lessen the density of crimes against women.
  3. Career Counselling: In order to advise a girl child on multiple career opportunities that would provide them economic independence, a team of experts from various walks of life would give a counselling session on Tuesday.
