Prominent Congress Leader Quits His Post; Find Out
Mumbai: Senior Congress leader from Maharashtra and Mumbai party president Milind Deora stepped down from his post on Sunday, news agency PTI has reported.
Deora said he had made his intentions known to Congress president Rahul Gandhi during a meeting on June 26, adding he was looking for a role at the national level to help strengthen the Congress.
“We all will have to get ready for roles that these times demand as the political realities have changed since the Lok Sabha polls,” he told the news agency.
Deora’s resignation follows Rahul Gandhi’s resignation as party president, owning responsibility for the Congress’ humiliating defeat in the elections.
He had unsuccessfully contested the Mumbai-south Lok Sabha polls, losing to Arvind Sawant of the Shiv Sena.
He has suggested selection of a group of three senior Congress leaders to look into the affairs of the party’s Mumbai unit till the Assembly polls, scheduled later this year.
