Bhadrak: Tension prevailed in Bhadrak during the Odisha bandh called by INDIA bloc on Thursday after a face-off between police personnel and protesters on the College Chhak Overbridge on National Highway-16.
According to sources, a vehicle was passing through the National Highway during the bandh when agitators stopped it. The driver allegedly tried to forcibly drive the vehicle through the crowd.
Infuriated over this, the agitators hit the car. A police team led by the City Deputy Superintendent of Police, present on the spot, intervened to stop the protesters. When police pushed the agitators, a CPI(M) allegedly grabbed the collar of the City DSP. Police, however, overpowered the attacker and took him to the police station.
Meanwhile, some women protesters have alleged that they the women police personnel deployed at the site misbehaved with them during the scuffle.
A senior police official said the youth was detained as he had attacked the police on duty. The vehicular movement was restored after police forcefully removed the protesters from the National Highway.
