New Delhi: The National capital witnessed massive drama on Tuesday as the protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and demands for his resignation intensified.
After the march to Election Commission of India’s office by opposition INDIA bloc MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi, was blocked by police, the Congress leader, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and others entered Akashvani Bhavan and camped there.
Rahul said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat hijacked the nation through ‘vote chori’, and Gyanesh Kumar helped them.
“What they have done to the country is called treason… No one involved in it will be spared,” Rahul said.
The BJP countered such allegations with a series of press conferences and public statements through the day, saying that the march to the ECI office was yet another attempt by the Congress and its allies to create anarchy and “relaunch Rahul Gandhi.”
Sambit Patra takes guard
Hitting out against Rahul over his claims concerning Form 6, BJP national spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra accused the Congress leader of spreading “confusion” my misquoting the apex court of the country.
“Rahul Gandhi is attempting to create an atmosphere of anarchy, lies, deceit, and confusion in the country,” Patra said, adding that Rahul is trying to “boost his politics” by invoking the Supreme Court and misquoting it.
“The Congress has been repeatedly trying to launch and re-launch Rahul Gandhi by any means necessary. When, despite numerous attempts, he failed to gain traction, the Congress and some of its allies decided that even if it meant resorting to anarchy and undermining the nation’s democracy, they would launch Rahul Gandhi politically at any cost,” he said.
Second BJP press conference
Another senior leader and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi then stepped in, slamming the Opposition parties for “theatrics on the streets”.
Trivedi alleged that Congress, which is “internally a dynastic setup” masquerading as a democratic political outfit, has been levelling “baseless, meaningless and absurd” allegations against “every pillar of democracy”, including the judiciary, over the last 12 years because it cannot tolerate a “genuine democracy”.
Trivedi said that the reality for Congress is that Rahul is a “kaamchor” yet he is levelling allegations of “vote chori”.
Charging Congress of becoming “intoxicated” by its defeat in several states, Trivedi questioned its alleged support for giving voting rights to “absent, shifted, dead and duplicate voters” without verification.
Third front
The BJP’s counter-offensive continued with another press conference by Pradeep Bhandari, while Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju also weighed in against the Opposition’s campaign.
Bhandari called Rahul a ‘reel maker’, and ‘alerted’ the country that “whatever Rahul Gandhi or the Congress ecosystem says, its foundation is nothing but lies… They are not here to save democracy; they are working to bring their family to power, and they have a completely predetermined model for it.”
