Pune: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by one of her colleagues with a sharp weapon in the parking lot in the presence of several people.
The woman, who worked as an accountant at a multinational business process outsourcing (BPO) company, was rushed to a hospital with severe injuries and profuse bleeding, but succumbed while receiving treatment.
The ghastly crime took place at around 6.15 pm in the parking lot of the BPO in Yerawada on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Shubhada Shankar Kodare, while the attacker is 30-year-old Krishna Satyanarayan Kanoja.
A number of people witnessed the horrific attack, but none intervened.
Kanoja told police that his female colleague had borrowed money from him several times, saying that her father was unwell and needed treatment.
When Kanoja asked for the money to be returned, Kodare asked for more time citing her father’s serious condition. Kanoja then went to Kodare’s native place and found that her father was hale and hearty.
On Tuesday, after office hours, Kanoja asked Kodare to come to their office’s parking lot. He again asked for the money, and Kodare again refused. An argument followed, before Kanoja slashed at her with a cleaver.
A video surfaced online, showing the man attacking the victim in the presence of other people who surprisingly didn’t try to stop the man.
But after the attack, people caught Kanoja, thrashed him and handed him over to the police.
