Pune Teen’s Porsche Crash: 2 Policemen Suspended For Not Following Protocol
Pune: Massive public outrage and intense media scrutiny have forced authorities to take action over lapses in the Pune Porsche accident in which a 17-year-old allegedly ran over two bike-borne techies in the early hours of May 19.
A police inspector (PI) and an assistant police inspector (API) have been suspended, ANI reported quoting Pune’s police commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
“Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari, posted at Yerwada police station, have been suspended as they did not inform the wireless control room about the accident,” Kumar said.
Earlier in the day, the police commissioner alleged an attempt to tamper with the evidence to show that the Porsche which crushed Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta was driven by the family driver and not the teenaged son of a prominent real estate personality.
“We have the CCTV footage of him (juvenile) drinking liquor in the pub. The point of saying this is that our case is not just depending on the blood report as we have other evidence also. He (juvenile) was fully in his senses, he had full knowledge that due to his conduct, such an accident, where section 304 is applicable, can happen,” PTI quoted Kumar as saying.
The accused teen’s bail, granted on the same day of the accident, was overturned and he has been sent to a child observation centre.
His father and five others have been sent to judicial custody till June 7 by a Pune court.
