Puri: A CRPF jawan was arrested on Sunday for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a minor girl inside a police quarter in Puri a week ago.
The accused, Bulu Barik, was arrested from Rayagada district. The prime accused, Jitendra Sethi, and two others, Rajesh Sethi and Rama Chandra Pradhan, were arrested earlier.
Police said Bulu, a resident of Rendha in Puri’s Bramhagiri block, had fled his village after the crime and was hiding at a relative’s house in Rayagada district. He was nabbed while taking a bath in Nagabali river between Chhekaguda and Dhumaguda villages.
The incident had taken place on December 2 when Jitendra Sethi, a dismissed constable and the prime accused, picked the minor girl from the bus stand at Nimapara in a car on the pretext of giving her a lift to her native place at Kakatpur. Later, he and the three others took the girl to Puri and raped her inside a police quarter near Jhadeswari Club in the evening.
However, the girl managed to escape and informed the local people.
Following a complaint, Town Police started an investigation and arrested the prime accused. Police later arrested two accused while the hunt was on for the fourth accused.
