Puri Jagannath Temple Decked Up To Celebrate Rakhi Purnima

Puri: Puri Srimandir was decked up for the celebration of Rakhi Purnima on the holy occasion of Gamha Purnima (Birthday of Lord Balaram) with all the rituals here on Monday.

Every year, the Patara servitors prepare ‘Pata Rakhi’ which Goddess Subhadra ties on the hands of Lord Balabhadra and Lord Jagannath.

The temple administration provides ‘Pata cloth’ to patara servitors, who collect and dye it in five colours —blue, red, green, yellow and white. Then they cut and sew them in concentric circles. The base of the rakhis is of 10-inch diameter. While the rakhi for Lord Jagannath is painted red and yellow, Lord Balabhadra’s rakhi is painted blue and violet.

All the six idols — Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, Sudarshan Bhudevi and Sridevi are bejeweled with gold ornaments.

The Sudha Suar prepares puja with the help of Puja Panda, Pati Mohapatra and Mudirasta servitors. Then, the rakhi bejeweled with gold is given to Lord Balabhadra.
