Puri Jagannath Temple Servitors Seek PM Modi’s Help To Ensure Use Of Pure ‘Desi’ Cow Ghee In Mahaprasad Preparation

Puri: Members of Suara Mahasuara Nijog of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate necessary steps to ensure the use of pure desi ghee in the preparation of Mahaprasad in the 12th century shrine.

They sought the PM’s intervention in the matter days after Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) decided to use only OMFED ghee for the preparation of Mahaprasad and lighting lamps in the shrine.

In a letter, members of the Nijog have urged Modi take steps to preserve the sanctity of Mahaprasad by allowing the use of pure desi cow ghee.

The servitors also urged the PM to take necessary steps to set up a gaushala at Lord Jagannath’s Amrutarohini plot for a steady supply of pure desi ghee to the temple. Setting up of gaushala will also go a long way in promoting the overall welfare and development of cows, they said.

This initiative would not only support the temple’s ritual but also contribute to the larger cause of ‘gau-seva’ and sustainable cow development, they said.

It may be noted that the SJTA has decided to use only OMFED ghee in the temple following a meeting. The temple administration has also written a letter to the MD, OMFED, informing about the decision and seeking necessary steps for having a special depot for the purpose.
