Puri To Host Mini Marathon For Awareness On Heritage Conservation

Puri: A day after receiving the National Award for effective plastic waste management, the Puri district administration has decided to organise another event to raise awareness about conservation of heritage monuments.

The administration is all set to host a mini marathon in Puri town on January 23, on the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti, sources said.

The “Puri Mini Marathon” will be organised in association with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

According to sources, the race will be held on January 23 every year with a new theme. The theme for this year’s event is “Disaster Resilient Heritage”.

The reporting time for the mini marathon is 6 am. The race would begin at 7 am from the District Sports Complex at Talabania covering around 8-km route and culminate near the beach hotel Asiana Lagoon.

The first prize carries cash reward of Rs 30,000, second prize Rs 20,000, third prize Rs 10,000 for man and woman. Besides, there are seven consolation awards of Rs 5,000 each to be given to seven participants.

Registrations to participate in the event had already started from January 10. Those who are interested can registers themselves online at www.puri.nic.in and physical registration at the counter at District Sports Office from 10 am to 5 pm.

The last date for registrations is January 21, 2020. There is no registration fee.

The age of a participant must between 15 and 50 years and he/she has to submit a self-declaration certificate.
