Bhubaneswar: ‘Jagannath Dham’ Puri emerged as India’s top pilgrimage destination in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw stringent lockdowns and slow unlocking of services.
This was revealed in the findings of OYO Travelopedia 2020.
The coastal district of Odisha pipped Vrindavan, Tirupati, Shirdi, and Varanasi to take the top spot in the year in which hospitality was badly hit worldwide amid global restrictions.
While Delhi saw the most bookings across the world in 2020, December 2020 emerged as the month that witnessed the most demand around the holiday season with the unlocking of cities. Most Indians picked the long weekend of October 2 (Gandhi Jayanthi) and Christmas weekend for travel and holidaying, it said.
Goa, Kochi, Vizag and Puducherry were the most-booked beach destination, while the northern cities of Jaipur, Udaipur, and Agra were the most-loved heritage cities for Indians.
Interestingly, a single user stayed at OYO hotels 128 times in 2020, it added.
