New Delhi: In the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings, Indian universities failed to mark their presence in the top 100 list of global universities.
The list released on Wednesday included only 21 Indian universities and institutes in the first 1,000 this year.
Despite the Center’s Institutes of Eminence (IoE) scheme introduced two years back to boost their worldwide rankings, 14 of 21 institutions have slipped further down in the ranking list compared to last year.
Notably, IIT-Bombay remains the country’s top institute followed by IISc-Bangalore, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Madras, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Guwahati, Delhi University and IIT-Hyderabad.
Amongst the institutes, only IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Hyderabad, OP Jindal University, and Savitribai Phule Pune University have shown slight improvement.
Besides, private IoEs like Pilani (BITS-Pilani), Anna University and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) could not make it to the list of 1,000 universities.
Globally, Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) secured the first position, followed by Stanford University and Harvard University
