New Delhi: Pakistan were on a cliff’s edge in the ICC T20 World Cup after losing to newbies USA and fierce rivals India.
Their slimmest hopes, resting on favourable results in other games, were snuffed out when the USA versus Ireland game in Lauderhill, Florida, was washed out without a ball being bowled.
The no-result meant that the teams shared a point each and helped USA (5 points) qualify for the Super Eight stage along with India.
Even a win in their last group league fixture against Ireland won’t help Pakistan as they will finish with 4 points.
It was a disappointing tournament for Pakistan as they first came a cropper against tournament debutants USA and then lost a match they should have won after bowling out India for 119.
Already under fire from their supporters back home and ex-Pakistan cricketers, Babar Azam’s men were the subject of ridicule and fun after their fate was sealed by nature.
A series of memes flooded social media, with ‘Qudrat ka Inteqam’ (Nature’s revenge) trending as fans expressed their disappointment.
