Bhubaneswar: After a long wait, the Odisha government is now set to introduce queue system for devotees visiting Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri for darshan of the sibling deities.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Friday that the much-debated ‘Dhadi Darshan’ system will be made operational from September 15, ahead of the auspicious Kartik month, which draws lakhs of pilgrims to the holy city.
He said the queue system at the 12th century shrine will commence after the formation of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee. Once the panel is constituted, its first meeting will take a decision on shifting the Hundi from Jagamohan area of the temple. “The temple administration is fully prepared to introduce the queue system,” Harichandan said.
Stating that the Managing Committee will be constituted by September 3 or 4, the Minister said arrangements will be finalised to ensure smooth darshan.
Introduction of the queue system will improve crowd management in the temple and enable devotees to have darshan of the deities in a disciplined manner, he said.
The Temple Managing Committee, which plays a significant role in overseeing the affairs of the 12th-century shrine, has remained defunct since its tenure expired in August 2024.
