New Delhi: A BJP MP from Nagaland, Phangnon Konyak, on Thursday filed a complaint with Rajya Sabha Chairman against leader of opposition and Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi. In her complaint, the BJP MP alleged that Rahul Gandhi misbehaved with her by standing too close and causing discomfort during simultaneous protests by the BJP and Congress outside Parliament.
“I was standing just below the staircase of Makar Dwaar with a placard in my hand. The Security Personnel had cordoned and created a passage to the entrance right for the moment of Hon’ble MP’s of other parties. Suddenly, Leader of Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji along-with other party members came in front of me despite there being a passage created for them,” her letter states.

“He misbehaved with me in a loud voice and his physical proximity to me was so close that I being a lady member felt extremely uncomfortable,” the MP stated in the letter.
The BJP MP claimed that she “stepped aside with a heavy heart and denouncing my democratic rights but felt that no Member of Parliament should behave this way”. As a woman and member of the ST community, her dignity and self-esteem were deeply hurt by Gandhi’s actions, she stated. She also sought the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s protection. While speaking at the Rajya Sabha, she raised similar allegations, adding that Rahul’s actions were ‘very bad.’
Konyak made history in July 2023 as she became the first woman from Nagaland to be elected as a Rajya Sabha MP.
