New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi didn’t mince words as he directly took on the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first address in New Delhi after taking over as the party president.
In the midst of senior party leaders including mother Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad and several others, Rahul took a pot shot at Modi, saying he had spread ‘lies’ about Congress party.
“In 2014, the BJP and the RSS spread lies against our government. Modiji spread lies and spoke against our government, the Congress party and its leaders. The truth is now coming out and the people are seeing the truth about Narendra Modi,” Rahul said in the ‘Jan Aakrosh’ rally held at Ramlila Maidan.
Setting tone for the 2019 elections, he said the grand old party was confident of winning elections.
“I can tell you that the Congress party will win Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. It will also win the 2019 elections,” Rahul said.
On the visit of Prime Modi to China, where he held ‘informal’ talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Rahul launched a verbal attack for not raising the Doklam issue. “Modiji did not publicly speak a single word on Dokalam during his visit to China. What kind of prime minister is he?” Gandhi asked.
Addressing the Congress workers as ‘sher ke bacche,’ who are like ‘satya ka sipahi’ he said, “The Congress workers, who are fighting like ‘sher ka bachche’ (lion cubs), are ‘satya ka sipahi’ (soldiers of truth). You beat or kill them, they will not leave the truth,” he said referring to the killing of Congress workers in Punjab and Assam.
