Rae Bareli: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had come under fire from the BJP for his “gaddar” or traitor jibe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.
“When these RSS workers come before you and speak about Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, you should tell them to their face that your Prime Minister is a traitor, your Home Minister is a traitor… Your organisation is traitorous. You have worked to sell out India,” Rahul allegedy said at a public rally at his constituency in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, as reported by News18.
“An economic storm is raging over our heads, and our Prime Minister is busy handing out candies in Italy! Farmers, youth, women, laborers, and small traders are all in tears – the PM is laughing and making reels, while the BJP folks are clapping along,” he added.
He had earlier launched fresh criticism against Modi over his foreign tours. He accused the Prime Minister of asking citizens to avoid overseas travel while continuing international visits himself.
“He asks you to avoid foreign travel and then leaves on a foreign trip in aircraft that cost thousands of crores,” Rahul said.
He also warned about an economic crisis and rising inflation.
“An economic upheaval is coming,” Rahul said while speaking about the country’s economic condition.
Warned that prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas could rise sharply in the coming months, he said: “You will see where inflation reaches in just a few months. You will see where the prices of petrol, diesel and gas go.”
The BJP hit out strongly, criticising Rahul for his alleged disparaging remarks against the PM and HM.
Rahul had insulted the people of India by using the word “gaddar” against the Prime Minister, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said.
“Rahul Gandhi has insulted the 140 crore people of this country by insulting and using the GADDAR word for PM Modi. Rahul Gandhi’s remote control is in the hand of Pakistan and other anti-national forces,” Bhandari said.
The party’s spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, also attacked the Congress leader over his remarks.
“Congress talks about being mohabbat ki dukaan, but this is their actual identity. They have always disrespected PM Modi, and insulted his mother also. Because the Prime Minister comes from an OBC background, they have always disrespected him,” Poonawalla said.
