Bhubaneswar: Even as the toll in goods train mishap in Odisha’s Jajpur district rose to 3, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family of the victims.
While expressing grief over the incident, Vaishnaw further tweeted Rs 1 lakh compensation for the grievously injured and Rs 25,000 for those who sustained minor injuries.
Notably, eight wagons of a goods train derailed and crashed into the waiting hall at the Korei station around 6.44 am. The deceased and injured are among those who were waiting for trains in the waiting hall. The railway station building was also damaged due to the derailment of the goods train, which was coming from Dongoaposi and going towards Chhatrapur.

While the mishap affected train services, restoration work is on in full swing.
Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the bereaved families.
