Rain, Gusty Wind To Lash Bhubaneswar In 3 Hours; Yellow Warning In Odisha Till May 25

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued nowcast warning for two districts, including Bhubaneswar, till 6 pm on Sunday.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely in Khurda and Puri districts.

The Met office had issued similar warning for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Gajapati and Cuttack districts till 5 pm.

Notably, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Kendrapada till 8.30 on Monday. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places inKoraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam during this period. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain at one or two places in North coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Puri, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Boudh and Angul.

The IMD further said that the mercury may soar to 42 degree Celsius or more at few places in Interior Odisha – Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Bargarh – during the next 5 days, leading discomfort amid sultry weather conditions.

Notably, Bhubaneswar had recorded the highest day temperature of 38.6 degree Celsius by 11.30 am followed by Sambalpur (38.4), Jharsuguda (38.2) and Hirakud (38). The state capital had recorded 33.6 degree Celsius by 8.30 am.

By 2.30 pm, Sambalpur was the hottest at 43 degree Celsius followed by Hirakud (41.8), Jharsuguda (40.4), Chandbali (40) and Bhubaneswar (38.8).

The mercury shot up to 42.9 degree Celsius in Boudh, followed by Jharsuguda at 42.6 degree Celsius the previous day and it is likely to touch 44 degree Celsius in Sambalpur on May 23, the IMD added.
