Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in the southern regions of the state in the next 48 hours.
It had earlier issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Deogarh, Cuttack, Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput districts between 1.30 pm and 5 pm. People were advised to take shelter at safe places during this period.
Sources in the IMD regional centre here said Malkangiri, Balangir, Koraput, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Khurda, and Balasore received rain on Thursday.
