Bhubaneswar: Amid the severe heatwave sweeping across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted rain in several parts of the state next week.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at several places in the state from March 19, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty said in a weather briefing.
She said light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at one or two places of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak, on March 19. Rainfall activities were also predicted in these areas on March 20 and 21.
Dry weather is expected to prevail in the remaining districts of the state during this period.
The weather agency has also issued yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning, which are very likely to occur in one or two places across these districts.
On March 20, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in one or two places across the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.
Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are predicted at one or two places iof Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, and Sambalpur districts on March 21.
The weather agency said there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures (day temperatures) over the next 3-4 days, but a decrease of 2-4°C is expected thereafter.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures (nighttime temperatures) are predicted to remain stable over the next five days in the districts of Odisha.
