Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 17 districts of Odisha till 8.15 pm on Thursday.
Light to moderate thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may affect some parts of Nuapada, Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koenjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The weather agency had forecast thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Balasore districts on April 3.
On April 4, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal districts.
On April 5, there is a forecast for thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
The day temperature in the state is also likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius after three days with mercury soaring past. 40 degree Celsius at isolated packets of districts of Boudh and Balangir.
