There is no forecast of heavy rainfall in the state for the next 4 to 5 days, it added.

The Met office had earlier sounded yellow warning of heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) for one or two places in Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh during next 24 hours. There is no rain warning thereafter.

The Skymet, a private weather forecaster, has also predicted light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells is possible over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and north Telangana, on Saturday.

According to IMD’s extended range forecast, Odisha is likely to experience widespread to fairly widespread rain/thundershower with isolated heavy to very heavy rain in the beginning of August 18-19, scattered rain/thundershower in the subsequent 3 to 4 days and fairly widespread rain/thundershower towards the end of week ending August 24.

The following week (August 25-31) may also witness fairly widespread to widespread rain/thundershower. “Overall rainfall activity likely to be slightly above normal. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely in some districts of Odisha during the week.”

There is a possibility of another cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal around August 25, which is likely to trigger more rains in Odisha from August 23, the regional centre had said.
