Jaipur: Rajasthan Police have been issued a directive about use of words in specific languages.
Minister of State Jawahar Singh Bedham on Saturday wrote to Director General of Police Ravi Prakash Meharda directing the state’s police department to replace Urdu and Persian terms in official documentation with Hindi or English alternatives.
The minister ordered police to immediately initiate the process of reviewing and replacing Urdu and Persian words currently used in official police documents, reports, notice boards and communication with Hindi terminology.
In his letter, the minister acknowledged the historical usage of Urdu and Persian terms in police department, dating back to the Mughal era.
But he pointed out that the current generation of police personnel and the public are not familiar with these languages.
The state government is of the opinion that this language gap often leads to misinterpretation and delay in delivering justice. Hence, to eliminate such problems, use of Hindi or English has been advised.
