Rajinikanth Takes Political Plunge, To Contest TN Polls Next Year

Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth will launch his long-anticipated political party in January, five months ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls next year.

In a tweet on Thursday, Rajnikanth said he will announce the launch date on December 31.

“We will surely win the assembly polls and give honest, transparent, corruption-free, spiritual politics without caste and creed. A wonder and miracle will definitely happen,” the 69-year-old actor tweeted.

Ending years of speculation, Rajinikanth made the announcement three days after he met with senior office bearers of his forum, Rajini Makkal Mandram.

Rajinikanth and another actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan are widely tipped to be the X-factors in the Tamil Nadu election in April-May.

This is the first election since the death of the state’s two most powerful politicians, J Jayalalithaa of the AIADMK and DMK’s MK Karunanidhi, left a political vacuum in Tamil Nadu.
