Mumbai: Leaked photos from the set of Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, showing Ranbir Kapoor dressed as Lord Ram, drew flak as social media users criticised what they described as a shoddy wig in the $400 million film.
On Tuesday, a Redditor re-shared pictures of Ranbir from the sets of ‘Ramayana’, which were published by news portal Zoom on their social media handle on Monday.
The pictures were apparently taken when Ranbir was on way from the shoot to his vanity van.
In the leaked pictures, the actor is seen wearing a saffron-coloured dhoti, a sacred thread (Janeu), and a black cape covering his bare upper body. The actor is also seen sporting a wig to complete his Lord Ram look.
As the pictures went viral, a Redditor wrote, “All that $400 million budget and they couldn’t arrange for a decent-looking wig?”
Another user posted, “Bollywood really sucks in the fake hair & fake beard department. You can notice this in any movie or TV show.”
“If Ram had long hair, he would tie it up in a top knot. At least that’s what my comic book illustrations show,” read one comment.
“Learnt nothing from Adipurush apparently,” remarked one person.
Another said, “The whole film is gonna be CGI, isn’t it? just like Adipurush.”
Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studio, the mega-budgeted ‘Ramayana’ is one of the most awaited films of the year.
Besides Ranbir, the film also stars Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakhsman.
The film will be released in two instalments. Part 1 is slated to hit theatres in October 2026, and part 2 will be released next year.
