Keonjhar: A rape accused allegedly died of a heart attack inside the Keonjhar district jail on Friday morning.
The deceased, Turi Munda, was an undertrial prisoner accused of raping a minor girl.
According to jail authorities, Turi was shocked after learning that a fellow inmate, Sunil Nayak, was sentenced to death on Thursday for the rape and murder of a minor girl.
“It is most likely that the deceased had suffered a massive heart attack as he apprehended that the court will award a similar punishment to him,” a jail official said.
The official, however, added that the exact cause behind Turi’s death will be known after a thorough investigation.
Notably, the additional district judge had awarded the death penalty to Nayak for raping a three-year-old girl, said to be his relative, in Keonjhar district on January 13, 2017.
The child had later died due to shock and haemorrhage.
