Bhopal: A rape accused allegedly shot himself dead on Tuesday after killing the victim’s grandfather a day earlier in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. Before shooting himself in his head after being surrounded by police, the rape accused, identified as Bhola Ahirlwal, posted a message on Facebook claiming innocence in the rape case.
“I have not raped and the entire village is a proof. I am being framed under Pocso. Though it is true that I am accused of whatever happened yesterday (referring to the attack on the victim girl’s family).”
Bhola entered the victim’s house and assaulted her and other family members, intimidating them to withdraw the complaint. The 65-year-old grandfather intervened to protect her but Bhola fired at him, killing him on the spot. He shot the victim in the stomach and while coming out of the home, he encountered the victim’s 23-year-old uncle. He shot at him, too, and fled. The girl and the uncle have been admitted to hospital.
The police on Tuesday narrowed down his location and shot at him. Bhola also fired at the police but in desperation he shot himself in the head, killing himself on the spot, police sources said.
Earlier, the victim’s family accused the police of corruption, alleging them of demanding Rs 10,000 as a bribe. The victim’s family eventually paid Rs 5,000 but they claimed the police did not take timely action.
