Registered Automated Testing Station To Issue Fitness Certificates Of Vehicles From Next Year
Bhubaneswar: The Centre has announced that fitness certificate of motor vehicles would be issued only through registered Automated Testing Station from next year.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in a notification issued on April 5, stated that the Automated Testing Station must be registered under rule 175 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 to issue mandatory fitness certificates of the vehicles.
For the vehicles upto 8 years old, the certificate will be renewed for two years, while for those older than eight years, the certificate can be issued for one year.
The new rule will come into effect for heavy goods vehicles/heavy passenger vehicles from April 1, 2023 and for medium goods vehicles/medium passenger motor vehicles and light motor vehicles (transport) from June 1, 2024, the ministry said.
The ministry had issued notification of the draft rules on February 2, seeking objections and suggestions from the persons likely to be affected by the regulations within 30 days.
