Rejingtal Village Turns Art Gallery Of Tribal Painting ‘Idtal’ In Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: A village in Odisha’s Rayagada district has turned an art gallery of tribal painting ‘Idtal’ due to a workshop on tribal art culture.

The workshop, organised by Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, Odia Language Literature and Culture department and district administration, was held at Rejingtal village under Gunupur block in the district.

Aimed at promoting Saura mural painting ‘Idtal’, the workshop began on September 28. It continued for 5 days and concluded on Monday. More than 50 Saura artists joined the workshop to paint the Saura tribal art in front of their houses.

At the concluding function, president of the Akademi and eminent sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik felicitated the artists. The Akademi will launch a special training centre in the village for the aritsts so that Idtal can be showcases in global forum, he said.

The Idtal painting tradition has been followed by Lanjia Saura community for several generations. The tribals draw the art on the walls of their houses to show respect and gratitude to their deities, forefathers and also for the wellbeing of their villages.

These paintings depict agriculture, haunting, harvesting, hills and mountains, tribal lifestyle, marriage, dance, worship of deities, birds and animals.
