Orissa HC Quashes Plea Seeking Cancellation Of India-SA T20I Match At Cuttack’s Barabati
Cuttack: In a good news for the cricket lovers of the state, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday dropped the case seeking cancellation of the India-South Africa T20I match at Barabati Stadium here. The match is scheduled on June 12.
Earlier this month, one Sanjay Nayak of Bhuban area in Dhenkanal district had filed a PIL in the High Court claiming that the stadium lacks adequate fire safety measures. He had sought the order of the court for the cancellation of the match.
“The PIL was not filed for ‘public interest’, it brought to light ‘personal interest’ of a few persons who were expecting personal gains. Odisha Cricket Association has made all necessary arrangements for the safety of players and crowd at Barabati stadium,” OCA secretary Sanjay Behera told the media.
The match at Barabati Stadium will be played with 100 per cent spectators capacity under the newly installed LED Flood Light (the first LED Sports Flood Light in Odisha) and newly laid Sand Based Outfield. Both the teams will arrive in Bhubaneswar on June 10 for the match.
The visitors South Africa is scheduled to play a 5-match T20 series in India from June 9 to 19.
