New Delhi: In a relief to Isha Foundation, the Supreme Court on Thursday paused a Madras High Court order that allowed police action against Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s foundation. The apex court transferred the case to itself.
The judgment came after the Isha Foundation moved the top court challenging the Madras High Court order. The High Court had directed the Tamil Nadu government to submit details of all criminal cases registered against Isha Foundation.
The top court also asked the police to submit the status report before it. The next hearing in the case is on October 18.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra passed the order. An urgent hearing was requested by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who is representing the Isha Foundation.
“Police shall not take any further action in pursuance of directions in paragraph 4 of the High Court’s order,” the Court ordered, according to LiveLaw.The High Court had passed the order on September 30 based on the petition filed by a man, who alleged that his two daughters were being held captive in the Isha Yoga Centre and brainwashed there.
IsThe daughters had appeared before the High Court and submitted that they were staying in the Ashram out of their own will. But, the High Court observed that the allegations were quite serious, while directing Coimbatore police to probe the allegations of a POCSO Case against a doctor in the institution and other allegations about illegal detention.
