Bhubaneswar: Delay in renewal of driving licence and registration has been a big challenge for the State Transport Authority (STA). Since vehicle owners are also unable to obtain insurance certificate and pollution under control certificate due to lack of renewal of these two documents many such vehicles continue to ply, safety on the roads is jeopardised.
Now, STA has proposed a reduction in additional fee charged for delay in renewal of driving licence and registration certificate, besides regularisation of registration of unregistered tractors and trailers. The fee had been hiked to Rs 1,000 from Rs 50 per year (after the grace period of one month), in addition to fee for renewal.
The Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has proposed to the Principal Secretary of Commerce and Transport Department to reduce the additional fee to one-time payment of Rs 1,000 till March 31, 2020 for renewal of driving licences, which have lapsed prior to September 1.
He also suggested that vehicle owners be allowed to get their vehicles re-registered on a one-time payment of additional fee of Rs 1,500 for light motor vehicles and Rs 500 for motorcycles till March 31.
