Bhubaneswar: The state government has reduced the residency period of the primary schools teachers to ensure their promotion.

On the direction of chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday, the residency period of level V(B) assistant teachers has been brought down from one year to 6 months and that of level IV teachers from two years to one year.

The government’s decision will lead to promotion of 63,303 primary teachers, creation of new teacher posts and filling up the headmaster posts.

As many as 29,759 assistant teachers at V(A) level will be promoted to V(B) and 29,759 senior teachers to IV level. Similarly, 3785 headmasters at level IV will get promotion to  level III by September.

It may be noted that the cadres of primary teachers were restructured in 2019 by creating 51,164 posts in place of 21,463 posts at level IV. Similarly, 18,769 teacher posts were created in place of 9305 level III posts.

Congratulating the teachers who will benefit from the decision, the chief minister hoped that it will not only improve the management of primary schools but also the teaching conditions.
