Bhubaneswar: Construction of the residential complex for Odisha MLAs in Bhubaneswar is likely to be completed by June 30, according to Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
The Minister, who conducted a review of the project work on Wednesday, said that the agencies engaged in the work and the officials concerned have been asked to expedite the construction.
During his visit to the project site, Harichandan reviewed progress across the site and directed senior officials and the executing agency to expedite the remaining work.
The project comprises six towers with a total of 300 flats. Of the 300 flats, 105 will be Type-7 units and 195 Type-6 units. The complex is being developed to accommodate 130 legislators and 170 senior officials.
As per information, the project will also include a sewage treatment plant, groundwater conservation measures and a green belt.
Plans are also afoot for construction of a 50-room clubhouse for guests and detailed discussion was held on the matter. The new residential complex is coming up near the legislative assembly building after demolition of old govt quarters and the single- and double-storey residential buildings meant for MLAs. The redevelopment is aimed at creating modern housing infrastructure for legislators and senior govt officials in the MLA colony area. The state cabinet has approved more than Rs 500 crore for the project.
The project earlier drew concern over its slow progress. In November 2024, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy visited the site and expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of construction.
The review meeting was attended by Ekamra Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, works department’s Principal Secretary, Sanjay Kumar Singh, and other officials.
