Retired Army Jawan Arrested On Murder Charge In Odisha’s Cuttack
Cuttack: Police have arrested a retired jawan of Indian Army for allegedly shooting a man to death in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Athgarh SDPO Bijay Kumar Bisi said the shooting incident took place at Jenapada under Athgarh police limits on February 13. The accused retired jawan, Sadanand Das alias Lituna, was staying in his maternal uncle’s house in Jenapada since childhood.
Lituna had known the victim Bansidhar Nayak of the village for a long time. But their relationship had soured due to some reasons.
On the fateful day, when Bansidhar along with his friends Dinabandhu Nayak and Jituna Nayak was going on the village road, Lituna accompanied by his friends Lipuna, Bijay and Biru confronted them. They had a heated argument over the old issues.
In a fit of rage, the former jawan brought out a gun and fired at Bansidhar and his friends. All the three persons sustained bullet injuries and were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack. Bhanumati Nayak had filed a complaint at Athgarh police station in this regard while Lituna absconded.
While Dinabandhu and Jituna were discharged from the hospital after the treatment, Bansidhar’s condition became critical. Nearly 7 days after he was admitted, Bansidhar succumbed in the hospital.
The SDPO said the police, who had launched a manhunt to trace Lituna after Bansidhar’s death, managed to nab him from a place on Dhenkanal-Athgarh border on Friday night.
The police arrested Lituna and seized a gun and 38 live cartridges besides Rs 5,000 from his possession. The 3 other accused are still absconding and Lituna would be forwarded to the court, said the SDPO.
