Bhubaneswar: Retired IPS officer S N Tiwari breathed his last at a private hospital in Odisha capital on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 81.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
A native of Khariar in Nuapada district, Tiwari had joined the Indian Police Service in 1964.
He served in various positions including, DIG (Northern zone), DIG (Central Range), Director (Prisons) and retired as Director (Intelligence) in 1998.
On deputation, he was posted as Joint Secretary, Intelligence Bureau, and Director BSF. He was the only Odisha-cadre IPS officer to serve as Director SPG.
He was known for his expertise in internal security and anti-Maoist operation.
