Paradip: The retrenched labourers of Cargill India refinery plant continued their strike outside the company for the second day on Thursday.
“Our discussion with the officials of the district administration failed to yield any result yesterday. So, we have decided to continue the protest till our demand for reinstatement of our jobs is fulfilled”, one of the agitators said.
Defying prohibitory orders clamped under Section 144 of CrPC by Jagatsinghpur district administration, nearly 152 retrenched workers of Cargill India refinery plant accompanied by their family members are sitting on a dharna in front of the company’s gate demanding jobs at Adani Wilmar Limited which had bought the Cargill India Company.
A total of five platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
The workers had also staged a similar protest before the plant in April this year after the company was shut down due to losses and later gheraoed Paradip police station over the same demand.
Apprehending tension, the district administration had also imposed restrictions under Section 144 near the plant premises.
However, the agitators had withdrawn their protest after getting assurance from police and company officials to consider their demands.
