Deogarh: In a case of suspected revenge killing, a man died after being run over by a Hyva truck following a minor argument on National Highway No. 49 in Odisha’s Deogarh district.
As per police sources, the incident took place near Chatibarghat village under Tileibani police outpost. The deceased has been identified as Kartik Oraom of Mahendrapur village under the jurisdiction of Reamal police station. His wife Geeta Minz alleged that Kartik was deliberately run over by the truck driver.
Based on a complaint lodged by her following the incident, Deogarh police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.
Police sources said Kartik had been to Tileibani market along with his wife on Wednesday. During their visit, he reportedly got into an argument with truck driver Sushil Kishan of Asanlata village over some issue.
Kartik and his wife were returning to their village on a scooter in the afternoon when the two-wheeler encountered a tyre puncture. The couple then stopped by the roadside.
Sources said when the accused truck driver passed through the same route, a fresh argument took place between the two.
Following the altercation, the accused allegedly drove the Hyva truck towards Kartik and ran the vehicle him over before fleeing the spot.
Kartik was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
After being informed, police acted swiftly, tracked down the driver and arrested him. He is being questioned by the police.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. The brutal killing has sent shockwaves across the locality.
