With the dual purpose of reviving the dying art of kite flying and promoting the beaches of Odisha as fun destinations, Young Indians (Yi) Bhubaneswar Chapter is hosting Uttaryana Kite Festival on January 14-15 at Marine Drive, Eco Retreat Park, in association with Odisha Tourism and Sports & Youth Services Department.
FLY 360, expert kite flyers from Mumbai have arrived in a team of 8-10 pax to put up a designer kite & LED kite show. They will showcase the evolution of kite flying and also host modern kite making workshops for children and adults in a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) format.
The event is being held to coincide with Makar Sankranti, a major festival in the country. Most of the Indian festivals are based on the position of the moon. Makar Sankranti is the only festival that is marked by the sun’s position and thus, always falls on January 14/15. Also, from this day, the sun starts getting brighter, meaning longer days.
